PSFS meets monthly, usually on the second Friday of the month. Meetings usually feature a guest speaker known in the SFF community along with lively back-and-forth discussions.
Recent guests have included Carmen Maria Machado, Josiah Bancroft, Tom Purdom, Jon McGoran, Madeleine Miller, Fonda Lee, Jeanne Cavelos, Jonathan Lethem, Vandana Singh, PJ Manney, Jason Sanford, John Wiswell, Cat Rambo, Jo Walton, Stephanie Feldman, Ray Nayler, Premee Mohamed, Randee Dawn, Ellen Datlow, Walter Hunt, and Gregory Frost.
Since Covid, our meetings have been a combination of remote (via Zoom) and in-person. Locations for in-person meetings are either at St. Mary’s Church at Penn, 3916 Locust Walk, Philadelphia PA 19104, or the Rotunda, 4014 Walnut Street, Philadelphia PA 19104.
Our next monthly meeting will be Friday, May 10 at 8 pm and will feature guest speaker Donn Riggs (bio below). This will be an in-person meeting! Join us at St. Mary’s Church at Penn, 3916 Locust Walk, Parish Hall (behind the Sanctuary), Philadelphia, PA 19104. Business meeting starts at 8, Speaker at 9. This meeting is free and open to the public.
Don Riggs is a professor of Communications at Drexel University. He has contributed to the anthology The Sense of Wonder: A Century of Science Fiction and is a regular book reviewer for The Future Fire. He has always been drawn to the Marvelous in narrative, and has taught courses on science fiction, Game of Thrones, and Tolkien. He has a background in Medieval literature and his languages include modern and medieval French and Latin.
